This anthology contains the revised and updated versions of papers that have been presented at the RC/01 session Women in the Military: National and International Perspectives chaired by Helena Carreiras and Leena Parmar, during the last ISA’s World Congress of Sociology, which took place in Durban, South Africa in July 2006.  It also includes five other articles that have been written specifically for the purposes of this book.
